Owen Griffiths Signs For The Swindon Wildcats!
Owen arrives in Swindon having iced in 54 games for the Storm last year, where he posted 6 points in their push for the playoffs.
In total, Owen has spent the last 6 seasons in the EIHL icing for Milton Keynes, Guildford, Nottingham and Manchester in his way to over 300 games in the top tier of British hockey. During his time in Nottingham, he took home the EIHL Series championship as part of the return from Covid.
Before his move to the EIHL, Owen spent time with the Peterborough Phantoms in both the EPL and NIHL1.
As well as all this, Owen is no stranger to the Wildcats having spent a year with us during the 2015-16 season, where he also won a Bronze medal with Team GB U20s in the same year.
Head Coach Aaron Nell said;
“I am delighted to have Owen join the team for next year, he is someone I have spoken to in the past and I know there were several teams in our league looking to sign him.
Since he was last in Swindon, his game has developed significantly, and he will be a big part of our forward line and will be expected to lead us on a nightly basis.
He will add speed to our lineup and is looking forward to the challenge of being leaned on in all situations.
He is familiar with a few guys on the team already which will help him settle in and with his commitment to playing on both sides of the puck he will fit in to exactly what we are trying to do in Swindon!”
Owen had this to say on the move back to Swindon:
“It was a few years in the making to be honest, me and Aaron has spoken in the last few summers since I made the step to the elite league, we have always stayed in touch and always had a good relationship. It was always a motivation to stay playing at the highest level I could but, I want to make a few life changes and move a bit closer to home. I know Swindon have always been up there pushing for trophies and I am hoping to help get them some silverware this year!”
