Walker Sommer signs a one year extension
The Sheffield Steeldogs are delighted to announce the re-signing of American import Walker Sommer, for the 2025/26 season

What a first season in the UK for import forward Walker Sommer, scoring 100 regular season points plus an additional 10 in the post season play offs.

Therefore, it was a no brainer for the Steeldogs to bring the 28-year-old American back for another season

Having played in the NCAA at Niagara University between 2020 and 2022 Sommer headed to Europe and Germany for the 22-23 season in Landsberg (18 goals and 32 points). The following season saw a move to EV Lindau (16 goals and 35 points)

Then the move to Sheffield and the Steeldogs where he registered an impressive 56 goals and 44 assists, for 100 points in regular season play. The first Steeldog to register a triple digit point haul over the Regular Season, in their history.

Walker Sommer

“I’ve loved playing here from the moment I arrived in Sheffield and can’t wait to return next Season. The fans, my teammates and the Staff have been nothing short of amazing to me, which is why it made it such an easy decision to re-sign. I’m already excited for the new Season to start, with the aim of winning a Championship!”

Jamie McIlroy

“The re-signing of Walker was one of the most important pieces to get over the line for this upcoming Season, hence why we moved so quickly to secure his services. He’s been a revelation since he arrived in Sheffield, leading the League in scoring for most of the Season, finishing on 56 Goals and 100 Points. He brings more to the team than just his goal-scoring prowess; he’s a leader and a consummate professional, who typifies everything that we need throughout our roster.

He’s fully bought into what we’re building here, and I’m sure that everyone in Sheffield will be delighted to hear this news. We look forward to welcoming him back in September, for what promises to be an exciting Season for the Steeldogs and our supporters.”
