Goal Video Review System trial

Goal Video Review System trial
Two fixtures this weekend will trial the National league's Goal Video Review System ahead of league-wide roll out in October.

Fixtures in Swindon and Milton Keynes this weekend will feature a trial of the Goal Video Review System: a new facility to assist our match-night officials in situations where additional clarification will help determine the validity of a goal.

The second goal of the games on Saturday in Swindon and Sunday in Milton Keynes will see one of the on-ice referees signal for a review, with the off-ice officials and video teams working with the on-ice crew to work through replays from all available angles.

For season 2026/27, the technology will be available to assist with goal decisions only at the Referee's request. The situations covered will be a published subset of IIHF Rule 37.3. There is no Coach Challenge facility and goal decisions are not eligible for the DRS process.

Replays will not be shown on club streams nor on any arena screens, and the review process should not take any longer than three minutes to complete.

These two test events will provide invaluable feedback for the clubs, the league and IHUK Referee's section, with more club trials expected in the coming weeks as we look to roll out across the entire competition in late October.
